HALL OF FAME

⭐Jimmy Barry Murphy

Known for his long history as a GAA player and manager, Jimmy Barry Murphy is regarded as one of the most iconic players in the history of Gaelic Games.  To the greyhound racing community, he is known as a lifelong fan of greyhound racing and the man who spearheaded “The Friends and Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing Committee” in 2019.  This group were established to raise the sponsorship contribution for the Irish Greyhound Laurels from 2019 – 2021.

SPECIAL MERIT

⭐Brenda Powderly

Brenda was appointed as an IRGT Committee member in 2016 and in 2017 was first appointed as a Trustee of the IRGT by the Board of RCÉ.  Brenda is well known in her role as greyhound owner/trainer as well as an active volunteer for many greyhound rehoming initiatives.  Pre-COVID restrictions, Brenda and her beloved retired greyhound Ted spear-headed the “meet & greet” Ambassador Programme in Shelbourne Park.

WELFARE

⭐Sarah Hensman

Sarah is based in Ballyduff, Co. Kerry and has been involved in the rehoming of retired greyhounds in Ireland since 2010, all on a voluntary basis. Sarah assists with the preparation of greyhounds for rehoming and organises the transportation of the greyhounds to their new homes.  She also works directly with organisations outside of Ireland who then source homes for ex-racing greyhounds.

Rásaíocht Con Éireann (Greyhound Racing Ireland) has announced the recipients of the Hall of Fame, Special Merit and Welfare Awards for 2020 National Greyhound Racing Awards. 

HALL OF FAME

2020 Awards Ceremony

The virtual gala hosted by Ian Fortune, will be broadcast live on Sunday 16th May and will see the announcement of the 2020 canine winners along with interviews with our winners.

The event will be streamed worldwide from 7.00pm GMT on Sunday 16th May and will be accessible via this page or on Talking Dogs. 

All award nominees should have received details on how to participate at home. Good luck.
