DONAL BEATTY

DONAL BEATTY

Greyhound racing lost a great friend, enthusiast and character with the sad news of Donal Beatty’s passing in recent days.

Anyone that was lucky enough to know Donal knew he had a real zest for life, for people and sport. A proud Offaly man, he loved both football and hurling and was heavily involved in both through his the local clubs and local schools.

But he also had a real passion for greyhound sport and raced many dogs over the years. A popular figure at the track, he was the best of company and loved nothing more than shooting the breeze about greyhound racing, coursing or the GAA. Indeed, when the phone rang and it was Donal on the other end, you needed to allow a good half an hour for the conversation.

He was also handy with a greyhound and was a fine judge. He also bred many top class performers. His love for the dog didn’t end with sport, however. He also ran a successful boarding kennel where he got to surround himself with his canine friends.

At this difficult time, we send on our sincerest condolences to his loving wife Arlene, his children Seán, Ronan and Emma, his mother Benny, brothers Tom and Ken, sisters in law, brothers in law, extended family and his many friends in greyhound racing, the GAA and the wider community.

If you have the time, the Offaly Express did a wonderful piece on Donal, focusing on his passion for his family, life and sport. It really is worth a read. It captures Donal and his love for life. Click on the link below:
