SKYE QUICKEST IN BORNA SEMIS AT THURLES

SKYE QUICKEST IN BORNA SEMIS AT THURLES

Peter Farrell

The semi finals of the €2,000 to the winner Borna Kennels A4 525 featured on last night’s Thurles Park card and both semis went pretty much to script with the favourite coming out on top.

Of the two semis, it was Code Skye who went fastest by quite some time as Jennifer Lee’s bitch justified her even money price tag in the second semi. Running from trap three, Code Skye was turned over last time out but asserted from the off this time around after displaying a sizzling turn of early foot to turn in front. From here, Kylenoe Miad kept the leader honest in behind as she gave chase throughout, however, Code Skye wasn’t to be denied as she stayed on stoutly to win by one length. The time for the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Boherna Abbie was a good 29.37 .20s.

In the opening semi final, Kilvil Robert came out on top at odds of 5/4. Owned by the Kilvil-Syndicate, this heavyweight tracker was bidding to maintain his unbeaten record in the stake and indeed make it four wins on the spin for connections. Running from five, the son of Ballymac Best and In A Heartbeat broke well on the outside and quickly outpaced Epic King into the opener. From here, Kilvil Robert set a dominant pace down the back straight and although challenged late on by the strong-finishing Freedom Sonia, he kept enough in reserve to cross over one length to the good. The time was 29.66 .20s.

The draw for the final of the Borna Kennels A4 525, kindly sponsored by the Dwan Family, was made shortly after and is as follows :

T1 - CLONEEN VALERIE

T2 - KILVIL ROBERT

T3 - KYLENOE MAID

T4 - CODE SKYE

T5 - FREEDOM SONIA

T6 - EPIC KING

JACKS A STAR

Elsewhere on the card, there were two semi finals of an ON2 sweepstake down for decision and this resulted in two very likeable performances.

It was Star Jack who landed the opening semi final in the most impressive style. Owned by Patrick Everard, his charge went to traps as the 5/4 joint favourite and he followed up his debut win with rapid improvement. Running from three, Star Jack was led early on by Dashing Dude in trap two but took over midway down the back to immediately put daylight between himself and his rivals. Drawing clear thereafter, the son of Droopys Sydney and Oakview Brae stormed to an eleven and a half length victory, in a time of 29.10 .20s.

In the second semi final, Nomadic Magic built on her second place fish behind Star Jack last time out. Going off as the 5/4 favourite, Elizabeth Lonergan’s charge was slowest into stride from trap one but used her rails pitch to great effect as she nipped up the inside to take control. From here, it was a straightforward night’s work for the daughter of Broadstrand Bono and Some Girl Isla as she stayed on well to record a four length victory over Chubbys Coco in second. The time was 29.23 .20s.
