MCCALMONT GLORY FOR LYNCHY BOY

MCCALMONT GLORY FOR LYNCHY BOY

Ian Fortune

Lynchy Boy has been a real star for TJ and Paraic Campion through his long career and he added silverware to his tally at Kilkenny on Friday evening when running out a tremendous winner of the Frightful Flash Kennels McCalmont Cup.

This was a huge exciting contest with many of the field holding strong claims at various points through the race but, ultimately, Lynchy Boy was perfectly positioned before pouncing on the run in.

It was actually the outsiders of the field, Ballybough Bela and Black Summer that went up fastest to lead the field into the corner. The favourite Delirium Tremens missed the start but flew into the turn to challenge for second spot into the back straight.

Meanwhile, Lynchy Boy, who was left tight of room in the early yards, made his way onto the rail when afforded space. Entering the ack straight in fourth, he was close enough to mount a decisive challenge.

As Delirium Tremens joined and headed Ballybough Bela into the third turn, Lynchy Boy crept up the fence to shove his way into second between the last two bends. The race for the line was now on. Delirium Tremens entered the straight a length to the good but Lynchy Boy was now in full stride and the son of Confident Rankin and Boozed Bubble finished faster than his rival. Coming through on the run in, Lynchy Boy raced to a length and a half victory in 29.46. Delirium Tremens was second with Ballybough Bela finishing another two lengths adrift in third.

CELT CLAIMS BROWNE MEMORIAL

Later on the card, Knockdrinna Celt won the final of the Tom Browne Memorial in similar fashion for Thomas Leahy and Robbie Dowling.

Prominent from the outset, he moved to the front as they hit the final turn before going on to see off Kilara Roberto by three parts of a length in 29.48.
