COCO POPS AT NEWBRIDGE

COCO POPS AT NEWBRIDGE

Ian Fortune

Boylesports Coco may have been handed a tricky second round assignment in the Brownstown Tango & NTSC Open Unraced Bitch 525 but a flying start, allied with a tremendous display of pace, saw her set a strong standard as she came home clear in a rapid 28.60 in the last of the three heats.

The Dolores Ruth trained daughter of Droopy Sydney and Barn Swallow was flawless. Flying from trap four, she held a two and a half length advantage into the bend and never looked under threat thereafter. Ballyhimikinluck did close a little to the final turn but John Boyle’s Boylesports Coco kicked again of the final turn to run out a superb three and a half length winner. Ballyhimikinluck was second with Roanna Butts running on well to take third, just a half length adrift.

ORLAITH IMPRESSES

Burgess Orlaith was next fastest, making the most of an inside draw and an empty box on her left to come home in front.

Lets Go Bubbles went up fastest from three but stayed to the middle of the track, finding traffic between the opening two bends.

This allowed JJ Fennelly and Sheila Spillane’s Burgess Orlaith to shoot through on the fence. Good Lilly was soon second but had no answer to the new pace-setter. Burgess Orlaith (Burgess Bucks/ Burgess Dancer) was almost three lengths to the good at the third turn before staying on well to eventually score by five lengths from Good Lilly in 28.95. Oriental Queen overcame early crowding to take third, a length further adrift.

SHIVOO IS CRAFTY OUT FRONT

Crafty Shivoo displayed fine early speed and determination to win the opening heat for Brian and Peter Divilly.

Motoring up the fence, she hit the front on the turn but had to dig deep to repel the advances of Good Eclipse down the back straight.

Turning for home with a narrow advantage, she again had to call on extra to hold the late charge of Dapper Dolly. At the line, the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Ballymac Sanjose had a length and a half to spare over Dapper Dolly in 29.01 with Goo Eclipse just a neck away in third.
