EAST ANGLIAN DERBY HAS A NEW SPONSOR

One of the major competitions on the UK calendar is the East Anglian Derby at Yarmouth and it has been announced in recent days that they have a new sponsor in the form of the soon-to-launch BresBet.

The 75th running of the event takes place next month and will boast a winner’s purse of some €15,000. With such a prize it would be interesting to see if any early paced Irish trained runners make the journey across.

The man behind BresBet is Nick Brereton, who has a rich history in the sport, having owned so many top-class greyhounds along with his great pal and former trainer Carl Perry. Of course, Carl has never been shy about bringing a dog to Ireland and actually won the Open Sprint on Derby final night back in 2014 with the great Geelo Vegas, who was partly owned by Nic Brereton.

Running alongside the event and their various sponsorships will be the BresBet Foundation, which is a new not-for-profit charitable trust which will provide wide-ranging support for several charities including the Injured Jockeys Fund, Racing Welfare and other horse and greyhound charities. Best of luck to all involved at Yarmouth and Bresbet with the sponsorship.

The 75th BresBet East Anglian Greyhound Derby at Yarmouth is for 36 greyhounds and will close to entries at noon on Thursday, August 26.

The first round takes place on Wednesday, September 1; the semi-finals on Wednesday, September 8 and the Grand Final on Wednesday, September 15. The winner takes home £15,000, the runner-up £3,000, third-placed £2,000 and others £1,000.
