McMAHON FAMILY HIT MEMORABLE GALWAY TREBLE

While the action was fast and furious over the weekend, there was a notable treble away from Shelbourne Park as the McMahon Family enjoyed a brilliant night at Galway Greyhound Stadium on Friday.

It’s fair to say that, outside of the leading trainers, trebles are few and far between in greyhound racing, but the renowned ‘Lissatouk’ kennels enjoyed just that on Friday, with Lissatouk Sydney setting the standard for Brid McMahon in the concluding race.

Just an August ’24 whelp, the brindle was lining out for just his fifth career start but had already showcased his ability with a useful 29.03 .20s victory on his previous outing. Drawn in four this time around, the son of Deerjet Sydney - Lissatouk Peggy was installed as the warm 4/6 favourite and, despite breaking second, showed immediate acceleration to outpace his rivals in the early exchanges. Three lengths clear down the back, Breaghmore Joeys chased hard, however, the damage had been done early as ‘Sydney’ maintained a strong gallop to cross the line one length clear in a rapid 28.83 on a track rated .10s slow.

Prior to that, litter comrade Lissatouk Robbie (5/2) tasted a third career success for James McMahon. A strapping fawn, he recovered from a tardy start in five to take charge at the halfway mark. In doing so, he showed brilliant stamina qualities to power clear of Drombeg Milo and secure a three-length success. His time was 29.48 .10s.

In the opener, the treble was kick-started as Lissatouk Fred also justified 4/5 favouritism. This time owned by Seamus McMahon, the December pup showed huge pace to overcome a moderate start from five before taking up the mantle passing the sprint boxes. From there, the son of Orchestrate - Portumna Saphire drew clear of his rivals to win by seven and a half lengths in 29.14 .10s. On the basis of that performance, and given his age, expect this greyhound to be occupying open-class company in the coming months.
