After a delay of a week, the opening round of the WBOBA Open Unraced Stake was completed on Monday night at Enniscorthy and it really was worth the wait with Ballyroe Lane winning in a rapid 28.77 to joint those that qualified last Monday night.

Must like the fastest opening round winner Untold Sterling, Ballyroe Lane was also in action on the first race on the card and he left his rival standing. Representing Pat Whelan and Colm O’Neill, the exciting son of Ballyhimikin Jet and Luna Babylon was sharper than his rivals from the outside box, leading up by a length from Stripe Larry Boy.

Despite cutting across the to the fence, he cleared those on his inner before asserting from halfway. Staying on well, the October ’23 whelp emerged eight lengths clear of Stripe Larry Boy. Monbeg Hen was the third qualifier a further two and a half lengths adrift.

Th reward or Ballyroe Lane was a clash with the aforementioned Untold Sterling in next Monday’s second round, the draw and full form of which can be found at: https://www.grireland.ie/racing/upcoming-race-cards/upcoming-race-card-summary/?track=ECY&id=111908&date=23-Jun-2025
