OWEN PLANNING TO BRING SUSIE BACK SOON

Ian Fortune

Sensational 2021 Boylesports Derby champion Susie Sapphire will soon be back on the track after Owen McKenna reported his star performer in great shape this morning.
During her remarkable debut season, Peter Comerford’s star established herself as one of the greatest bitches to ever grace Shelbourne Park, winning the Puppy Oaks, Sporting Press Irish Oaks and Boylesports Derby.
Her 29.18 return in the Derby decider means she is the fastest 550yd Derby winner of all time and it will be wonderful to see her back in action in the very near future. Said Owen McKenna of the Derby champ, “She’s grand and will hopefully trial at Shelbourne on Saturday. We’ll give her a sprint. She’s been galloping away, is fit and well and raring to go.
“She’s about fourteen weeks out of season so should be spot on for the Easter Cup. She looks a bit stronger, there seems to be a bit more muscle on her although she won’t weigh much more than she did last year.
“At this stage it’s just about keeping her ticking over. We might give her a race before the Easter Cup but we have time to think about that.”
One suspects a few extra patrons may make an earlier than normal journey to Shelbourne Park on Saturday afternoon to see the daughter of Droopys Jet and Jetstream Lynx flex her muscles.
