A NEW ERA AWAITS AT SHELBOURNE

A NEW ERA AWAITS AT SHELBOURNE

Ian Fortune

Shelbourne Park is the most famous greyhound racing venue on the planet. There is no other venue that can match it for history, atmosphere or prestige.

This week, the Ringsend Mecca began a facelift that should bring the venue into the twenty first century.

More details on the work being done will be released in the coming weeks but those venturing to Dublin this evening for the Dublin Cup final will notice that the work has already begun. The ground floor is being stripped down this week ahead of the start of the refurbishment works and as a result will be closed for business.

There are plenty of alternative facilities in use with food options on the first floor, as well as bar facilities, while the bookmakers remain open for business. It is possible to get down to the steps of the grandstand, where you can hopefully back a winner or two.

For those that frequent the home of greyhound racing, it will be a frustrating period but I promise you it will be worth the wait. So, stay patient and look forward to a shiny new ground floor ahead of this year’s later-than-normal Derby.
