AGHADOWN JACOB A YOUNGSTER WITH A BIG FUTURE

Barry Drake

In what was a busy weekend of racing action, we almost missed the performance of AGHADOWN JACOB (Jacob Tashadelek-Ardrath Pearl) at Curraheen Park on Friday night, as the November puppy went quickest on the clock in the opening round of the Deelish Kennels ON2 Stake.

The 4-5 favourite produced a decent start from trap four, showing a lovely touch of early speed; the exciting prospect flew around the opening turns in front. He quickly opened up on the back straight, and it was caught the eye coming home, pulling right away to win in style.

Pic right: Michael O’Driscoll makes the winning presentation to Michael Naughton after Rings Bullet won the CPSC A3 525 on Friday night. Also included is trainer John Naughton.

It was a hugely impressive winning debut, posting 28.71 on debut and clocking eye-catching finishing sectionals. He looks a serious prospect going forward for the kennel of Niall Collins.

The Curraheen Park Supporters Club continues to do great work at the track and on the night, they had two sponsored races with additional prize money.

The Naughton family are great supporters of the sport, and they have a couple of nice ones with Paul Hennessy, but this time, they sent out one themselves, with Rings Bullet (Ballymac Wild-Fastnet Ariana), who returned to winning form after a couple of big runs in defeat.

Unfancied in the market, the 5-1 shot delivered a brilliant front-running winning performance to land the spoils, in 29.09. Nearing his fourth birthday, this was one of her best runs to date, and going on recent runs, she will be winning again soon. (CPSC A3).

In race six, the CPSC A4 race, Lahana Billy (Malachi-Bushpark Mel) delivered a career-best performance when winning for the kennel of Chris Walsh. The 7-4 shot has always shown huge gears, but often slowly away. This time he led around from trap six, so it was clear he was on for a big run. Showing massive speed throughout, he flew to an eight-length success, in 28.71.
