TIERMANA HUNTER A CLASS APART IN ANN CHEEVERS DECIDER

There was a handsome €2,000 on offer as the final of Ann Cheevers Memorial A3/A4 525 served as the feature at Galway Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night.

Kindly sponsored by the Cheever’s Family, this event had been hotly contested in recent weeks, however, Tiermana Hunter emerged as the standout last weekend and he once again proved too hot to handle in the decider. Trained by Colm Fitzgerald for the Supping-Away-Syndicate, the October puppy won in 28.97 .10s in the semis and the penny has well and truly dropped with this greyhound as he romped to an emphatic win in the decider. Drawn in two, ‘Hunter’ went to traps as the 1/2 favourite and he recovered from a slightly untidy start to immediately excel in the opening yards to lead. Once doing so, it was a case of how far for the strong-running son of Ballyhimikin Jet - Tiermana Jetty drew clear of Hollywell Sky down the back. Thereafter, it proved a formality for this rapidly improving brindle as he stayed out with his customary gusto before crossing the line six lengths clear of the gallant Hollywell Sky in second. The time was a terrific 28.99 and expect to hear more this October whelp in the months ahead.
