The Friends of Newbridge Derby got underway at Newbridge on Friday night and Imelda Sinclair’s Canya Steve set a strong standard when storming clear in Heat 3 to record a superb 29.76.
The David Flanagan trained son of Malachi and Burkos Dream chased Parkrun into the back straight before making his move from the third turn. Showing great strength, he raced right away from the early pace-setter to win by six lengths. Parkrun was second with Pennys Heart another six and a half lengths further adrift in third.
SHANNON COMPLETES A FLANAGAN DOUBLE
It was the first of two winners for David Flanagan who later doubled up with the Keeva Adam Emily Syndicate owned Sunset Shannon.
Off the pace for much of the way, the son of Ballymac Bolger and Lemon Stacey flew home to lead late for a deserving neck verdict over Bowadis Raven in 30.31.
GEE UP SHOWS DASH
Scott Phelan and the Harlequin Syndicate had a good winner in the form of Harlequin Gee Up.
The son of King Sheeran and Swift Zap displayed good early speed to get loose into the bend before going on to see off Rich Pursuit by two lengths in 30.00.
ANOTHER HOT RUN FROM DROOPYS
Donal Brennan’s Droopys Hottie continued her fine run of form around Newbridge by taking Heat 5 in trap to line fashion.
The daughter of Dromana Bucko and Droopys Dance was always in charge before emerging a comfortable three length winner over Mission Control in 30.16.
ROSE STARTING TO BLOOM
Jamie McGee’s Da Bold Rose came from well off the pace in Heat 4 after finding early traffic.
A rapidly improving daughter of Droopys Sydney and Oaks winner Ballymac Beanie, she was baulked at the turn but flew into the third turn to emerge a big challenger. Finishing well, Da Bold Rose would get up late to beat Southfield King by a neck in 30.51.
LADY LEAVES IT LATE
William Stacey’s Forest Lady was another to come from off the pace to win.
The Keith Powell trained daughter of Dorotas Wildcat and Southfield Bea charged into the third turn before slipping up the inside of Glitzy Magic and Clonkeen Tipp as they hit the final bend. From there Forest Lady held off the rallying Glitzy Magic by a length in 30.62.
