STEVE FOLLOWS UP IN NEWBRIDGE DERBY

    Ian Fortune

Much like the opening round, Imelda Sinclair’s Canya Steve set a strong standard at Newbridge on Friday night, clocking a rapid 29.60 in the second round of the Friends of Newbridge A1 Derby.

The David Flanagan trained son of Malachi and Burkos Dream was at his very best, showing alacrity in the opening yards to dictate throughout. The strong running tracker would maintain a powerful gallop to the finish to see off Paw McGrath, who ran an encouraging race in second, by three and a half lengths.

RAVEN FLIES IN A MCGEE ONE-TWO

Next fastest was Bowadis Raven as he led home a one-two for owner Jamie McGee in the opening heat.

The daughter of Dorotas Wildcat and Blundel Bridie charged her way to the front before the corner and would ease on to score by five lengths from her staying on kennel companion Da Bold Rose in 29.78.

    GEE UP WINS AGAIN

Harlequin Gee Up followed up his opening round victory for Scott Phelan and the Harlequin Syndicate. The son of King Sheeran and Swift Zap again made virtually all to see off Mission Control by seven lengths in 29.84.

    CLONKEEN ON TOP

Fraser Black and Ben Hughes teamed up to win Heat 3 with Clonkeen Top.

Much like the other heat winners, the son of Ballymac Best and Night Time Fairy would lead from the early stages to emerge a length and a half scorer over Rich Pursuit in 29.91.
