STATION FASTEST AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

Sub Station was fastest at Enniscorthy on Monday night in the second round of the Kiltrea Kennels Open Unraced as he came home in front of his kennel companion Barnfield Jack in Heat 3.

There was something of a surprise in the opening heat with 1-3 favourite Singalong Magic suffering defeat behind Timmytuffnuckles, while Ashwood Ozzy and Ballinabola Nova won the remaining heats.

NUCKLES TUFFS IT OUT

Singalong Magic set the standard in the opening week but missed the kick, found traffic and entered the back straight well off the pace in the opening heat.

In contrast, Running Saint led the way out front with Timmytuffnuckles giving chase.

The latter made his move between the last two turns, squeezing through on the fence to go to the front. Singalong Magic was now in full flight behind and closing but Brendan Sinnott’s Timmytuffnuckles was not going to be denied and the Anton Butler trained son of Droopys Flytline and Droopys Avatar stayed on to emerge a two-length winner in 29.28.

OZZY A GOOD WINNER

Ashwood Ozzy was on the mark in Heat 2 to complete a quick double for Anton Butler.

Owned by John Doyle junior and senior, the son of Koblenz and Succession may have taken a bump after a couple of strides but it didn’t stop him from striking the front into the turn. He proceeded to make all thereafter to beat Poppy Col by four lengths in 29.48.

SUB STATION FASTEST

Sub Station set the standard in Heat 3, getting first run on his kennel companion Barnfield Jack to hold on for success in 29.12.

The duo were first and second into the bend with Sub Station driving across his rival.

Barnfield Jack was forced to check his stride but soon recovered and set off in chase. Sub Station had four lengths in hand, however, and while Barnfield Jack did run on well, he couldn’t get to the long-time pace-setter. Trained by Pat Buckley for Roger Bates, Sub Station went on to cross the line with three parts of a length in hand on the eye-catching Barnfield Jack.

NOVA PROVIDES BIG JIM WITH A FIRST SUCCESS

Just four runners went to traps in Heat 4 and Ballinabola Nova provided her sire Ballinabola Jim with his first winner as a sire as she made all to emerge on top.

Trained by Brendan Muprhy or the Murphy Ballinabola Syndicate, Ballinabola Nova emerged our lengths to the good in 29.52. Her kennel companion Ballinabola Nyla was second.
