POWER STANDS OUT IN A4 DERBY, MONBEG IS DERBY BOUND

IT was such a busy weekend that we almost missed the fact that the opening round of the W.G.O.B.A A4 Guys & Dolls Deise Derby got underway below in Kilcohan Park.

This is worth a mention because the lucky winner will pocket €5,000.

It's a real A4 event with six heats, and the quickest by far was the 29-second winning performance of Amazing Power in the second heat, winning at odds of 5-4 for Michael Meade. The July puppy hit the front early from trap four, and in truth, the outcome was never in any doubt.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will preview and review this event. It's worth covering for such a great prize.

Elsewhere on the card, Mona Lee Monbeg is Derby-bound after winning the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby Trial Stake for Cormac Doyle and Mark Hatton. The August puppy was out the back early, but he tracked beautifully around the opening turns. 

Displaying plenty of pace on the back straight, the 5-2 winner was really strong in front, staying on well; he beat Sparta Calli by three lengths in 30.32.
