POTENTIAL STARS ON SHOW AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

It has almost become cliched to mention how many stars have emerged from Enniscorthy over the past two decades but it continues to be true.

Tonight, the latest in the many unraced competitions to grace the calendar at the Wexford venue gets underway and there are a number of very well-bred, clearly promising youngsters on show in the opening round of the James McCrea Carnew Founding Director Open 525.

The competition is sponsored by John Doyle and each of the five heats are packed with potential stars. But perhaps the most interesting of the lot is Singalong Magic in the opening heat. Pat Buckley has long used Enniscorthy to start off some of his very best unraced performers and this daughter of Shima Shine is clearly very talented.

A sister to Glengar Robin, who has been lighting up Kilkenny in recent weeks, she displayed all manner of promise in trials and certainly one to keep an eye on. We will review each of the five heats tomorrow morning but, needless to say, we are expecting some superb performances. The action at Enniscorthy gets underway at 8pm.
