GRI
A Chairde,
On behalf of Rásaíocht Con Éireann, I extend my New Year greetings to all members of the greyhound racing community as we enter 2026.
I wish to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of our trainers, owners, breeders, stadia management and staff throughout 2025. Your commitment to the highest standards of care and welfare for our greyhounds has been central to the many achievements and positive developments in our sport over the past year.
2025 has been a landmark year, marked by the approval and public launch of RCÉ’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, signed off by the Minister Martin Heydon. This plan provides a clear, ambitious roadmap through to 2029, guiding the industry towards a sustainable, well-regulated and commercially vibrant future.
We were also proud to announce the partnership with Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), which will see the first Greyhound Welfare and Husbandry course commence in early January 2026. This programme represents a significant advancement in professionalising care standards and embedding education across the industry.
The recently announced increase in prize money, alongside the continued recovery in racetrack attendances, reflects both the improved financial position of the sector and our commitment to rewarding participants. These developments acknowledge the hard work of staff, private track operators and industry participants nationwide.
Greyhound racing remains an important economic and social activity, supporting employment and local communities, and sustaining a cherished way of life for many owners across Ireland.
As CEO, I remain committed to promoting and enhancing the profile of our sport, consolidating a sustainable and high-quality racing industry. Our focus remains on delivering a consumer-focused entertainment product that meets the highest international standards in regulation, integrity and animal welfare.
With continued support from the government, our Board and key stakeholders, RCÉ will maintain investment in stadia, expand welfare initiatives and continue to secure sponsorship that reinvests in our communities.
Together, we will continue to strengthen our sport, invest in its people and animals, and build a positive future for the greyhound racing community in Ireland.
Le meas,
Tim Lucey
