MISTER SHINES AS SHELBOURNE TUESDAYS START WITH A BANG

Ian Fortune

Tuesday racing got underway at Shelbourne Park this week and while the crowd wasn’t huge, those that travelled were treated to some fine displays including a 28.45 debut from the very promising Whyaye Mister in the semi-finals of the Tuesday Headquarters Novices ON2 525.

Leading form the opening turn, the Michael Donnelly trained son of Droopys Sydney and proven brood Zola Princess raced right away to eventually beat Sleight Of Hand by six and a half lengths. The winner is owned by Martin Langley.

ACCEPT IMPRESSES

Incidentally, the other semi-final went to Accept Ordecline as he overcame greenness to emerge a good winner for Brendan Matthews.

The well-bred son of Droopys Got It and Wide Open displayed pace to get after Coolemount Great into the third turn before striking on the run in. He went on to win by a length and a half in 29.04 but it seems safe to suggest he will go far faster in the near future.

ANDY BOUNDS CLEAR

Reckless Andy was another impressive debut winner in a supporting ON3 contest.

Third into the turn, he stayed tight to the fence to take over as they entered the back straight before bounding further and further clear.

Owned by Kieren Knowles and Katie Brody Byrne, the son of Tommy Shelby and Galadriel went on to cross the line fourteen lengths clear of Coolemount Spy in 28.66.

WINSOME WINS WELL

The fine displays didn’t end there. Droopys Winsome posted a quick 28.62 in winning the eighth race on the card for Murt Leahy and John Coleman.

A lightly raced son of Pestana and Droops Onestop, he led from the drop of the hat to see off Outdoor Jack by three lengths in 28.62.
