MAGICMAN CAN LAND GREENE’S MEATS DECIDER AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

Novice action headlines tonight’s card at Galway Greyhound Stadium as the final of the Greenes Meats ON2/ON3 525 takes place, carrying a winner’s prize of €1,200.

After two competitive rounds, Rosie On Faya comes into the decider boasting an unblemished record for Peter Mulrooney after landing both rounds in trap-to-line fashion. The Colm Fitzgerald-trained lady has steadily improved on the clock, however, she faces her stiffest test to date when lining out from trap two tonight. A fast start is required for the daughter of Tommy Shelby and she will likely need to shave another couple of lengths off the clock if she is to maintain her unbeaten record.

Likely to be disputing favouritism in trap one is Leeanne Fleming’s Hanover Grace. The daughter of Hanover Sky posted the quickest time of the stake thus far when clocking 29.53 .20s in the semi finals and her sectionals suggest she will be right in the mix at traprise. Given she also has the benefit of the rails, ‘Grace’ will be hoping to continue a great run of form for the Hanover kennels.

Another with strong claims is Magicman for owner Michael Keating. The February 25’ tracker has been odds-on for both starts thus far and while he failed to justify his 4/9 starting price last time out, he has shown clear ability. Drawn in five, the son of Dorotas Wildcat is a powerful galloper and, if allowed to showcase his strengths down the back, can emerge a good winner of this final.

Of the others, Hollywell Raven has a decent finishing kick but will require some luck from his wide berth in six, while Ennis and On The Wire will also look to capitalise on any potential traffic early on. In what is a competitive final, the vote goes the way of Magicman to bounce back from his semi final defeat and establish himself as a very nice prospect for the Keating kennel.
