MAGIC FASTEST AS BUCKLEY RECORDS AN ENNISCORTHY HAT TRICK

Ian Fortune

Pat Buckley has long targeted the many unraced stakes at Enniscorthy and he was certainly the man to follow in the opening round of the James McCrea Carnew Founding Director Open 525 on Monday night, sending out three winners, including the very exciting Singalong Magic.

A daughter of Shima Shine and Newinn Liz, Gilbert Anderson’s November ’24 whelp turned the opening heat into something of a procession. Ballinclare Cora went up fast to hold a narrow lead on the turn but Singalong Magic asserted at this point before easing on.

It was all very straightforward for Pat Bucklety’s charge thereafter and she powered clear to eventually see off Ashwood Ozzy by nine lengths in 28.87 on a track rated .20 slow. Have no doubt, Singalong Magic is very talented and could be set for big things in the future.

SUB STATION TOO GOOD

Sub Station was the second leg of the Pat Buckley treble in the very best heat.

Roger Bates’ son of Dorotas Wildcat and Moanteen Cindy screwed from traps but was soon second before running a tight line on the bend to take over from the fast-starting Poppy Cool. He would go on to beat Fercullen Cathy by three and a half lengths in 29.30 (.20 slow).

JACK LOOKS A PROSPECT

It was fitting that Buckley completed his hat trick in the final heat with a son of one of Buckley’s best ever performers, Ballinabola Ed.

Barnfield Jack had shown real promise in qualifying and duly obliged at long odds-on.

Going up fast from four, Tomas Leahy’s son of Ballinabola Ed and View Doolin made every inch to see off Donishall Vicky by six lengths in 29.00.

WHY NOT OBLIGES

Edward Dobbs sent out Why Not to win the third heat.

A lightweight daughter of Dorotas Wildcat and Droopys Newsie she was never far off the pace before coming through in the latter stages to beat long-time leader Running Saint by two lengths in 29.57 (.20 slow).

MATT OVERCOMES TRAFFIC

Ushers Matt justified favouritism in Heat 4, overcoming early crowding to lead at halfway.

It was all very tight in the opening half of the contest, but Ushers Matty made full use of his back straight pace to go to the front when the gaps finally appeared. He went on to beat Ballinabola Juno by three lengths in 29.84 (.20 slow). Have no doubt, the winner can go far faster and will do in the near future.
