There were two sweepstake finals on offer at Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night as the final of the Limerick 600 featured, as well as the Go Greyhound Racing ON2/ON3 525 decider.
The first of the finals on offer was the Limerick 600 decider and the €1,300 to the winner event went the way of the well-named Lucky Lane. Owned by John Joe Mulcahy, this lady has enjoyed the extra yardage in recent weeks and she came into the event chasing a third straight victory after landing previous rounds in convincing style for connections. As a result, she was expected to take a bit of beating in the decider, however, she was forced to work hard after a poor start saw her settle for fourth place early doors. In contrast, Kiltymon Ninja set the early pace from trap three and just over three lengths separated several runners upon entrance to the back straight. Lucky Lane got to work at this point and the daughter of Skywalker Logan - Cooneen Izzy began to turn the screw tightly passing the 750-yard box. Quickly excelling into second on the approach to the penultimate bend, Lucky Lane tracked beautifully to loom alongside Kiltymon Ninja and she duly stormed clear thereafter to put daylight between herself and her rivals. The battle was on for the minor placings in the closing yards of the event, however, there was no doubt surrounding the winner as Lucky Lane flew to a two and a half length success over Kiltymon Ninja, who held on from Droopys Glamour. The time was 32.91 .20f.
RALLYING EFFORT
There was €1,200 on offer to the winner of the Go Greyhound Racing ON2/ON3 525 and Rallyingairfield got back to winning ways for Michael O’Meara as she regained control late on to win emphatically.
Jointly owned by Dan Flynn and Fergus Walsh, Rallyingairfield was a winner on debut in 29.10 and although tasting defeat in the semis, she was installed as the 2/1 joint favourite alongside Racenight Jane. Drawn in three, the daughter of Here Comes Syd - Airfield Biddy took a flyer, however, was immediately reeled in by the scorching early speed of Get Bye in trap one. The latter opened a two length lead entering the back straight at this point and he was followed by Rallyingairfield in her attempts to get back on terms. Traffic at the penultimate bend saw Get Bye unfortunately impacted and this, in turn, allowed Rallyingairfield to shoot into an unassailable lead thereafter. Drawing clear to win by an extending eight and a half lengths, the time was 28.75 .20f.
CAMPION DOUBLE
Elsewhere on the card there was a fine double for the kennel of Paraic Campion as Boozed Mac and Highview Ben won impressively.
Of the duo, it was Highview Ben that really stood up to be counted as the VHR-Syndicate owned runner made it back-to-back wins at Limerick. Running from trap two, ‘Ben’ made his intentions clear at traprise as he bolted from his inside berth to take a three length lead into the back. In doing so, Tullovin Bolger made a fine fist of it in his attempts to bridge the gap, however, the son of Pat C Sabbath never looked like surrendering the lead. Crossing the line two lengths clear, the time for the strapping black was a brisk 28.35 .20s.
Prior to that, Boozed Mac got the ball rolling as he made it three career wins for owner Gary Pepper. A 2/1 chance at the off, the blue jacketed-runner pinged out of traps, however, was immediately pegged back by the stunning early speed of Dellboys Molly in three. The latter looked a likely winner at this point but Boozed Mac failed to give up the ghost and his determination was rewarded as he once again hit the front on the run for home. Showing impressive stamina, the son of Ballymac Bolger - Road Queen raced to a two length victory, in a time of 28.64 .20f.
