Kilcohan Park Greyhound Stadium has been awarded Silver status in the Smarter Travel Awards, recognising the stadium’s proactive and ongoing commitment to supporting more sustainable travel options.
The initiative has been led by Thomas Ryan (GRI Events & Sponsorships Manager) with strong on-site support from Niall O’Malley, (Kilcohan Park Hospitality Manager), and reflects a collaborative effort to encourage greener, more efficient travel choices for staff and stakeholders.
The Smarter Travel Award acknowledges organisations that actively promote alternatives to private car use, including walking, cycling, public transport and shared travel, while embedding sustainability into day-to-day operations. Kilcohan Park’s Silver Award recognises tangible progress made locally, alongside a clear commitment to continuous improvement in this area.
CEO of Greyhound Racing Ireland Tim Lucey said, “This award is a testament to the collective effort at Kilcohan Park to think differently about how we travel to and from the stadium. Supporting sustainable travel isn’t just about environmental responsibility, it’s about creating a more accessible, community-focused venue. I’m delighted to see the work being recognised at Silver level.”
The Smarter Travel initiative at Kilcohan Park forms part of the long-term strategic objectives of Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI), which places sustainability, community engagement and responsible operations at the heart of its future development plans. The award reflects GRI’s broader commitment to embedding sustainable practices across its stadia and operations nationwide.
Greyhound Racing Ireland continues to support initiatives that deliver positive environmental and social impact while strengthening the long-term viability of the sport.
