It’s with great sadness we must report the passing of a true lady and legend of the greyhound community Kathleen Murray.
From an early age, Kathleen loved greyhound and was never far from one, aiding her father Frank and CissHoulihan in training dogs from their Macetown base just outside Mullingar. They enjoyed plenty of success with greyhounds such as top sprinter Witty Tom.
It was through the greyhounds that she met and fell in love with her future husband Francie Murray. They met at Mullingar track and it was soon clear that they would never part, going on to marry and have five children together, Catherine, Francis, Julie, Michael and David.
They would go on to become one of the most formidable and successful couples in Irish greyhound racing, winning many classics in Ireland and the UK, while Francie would be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
As an owner, Kathleen had many stars through the years but her most notable success came with the brilliant Treasury Tag.Under the care of Francie, he would capture the 1997 Puppy Derby and later that same year, the Munster Puppy Cup.
Kathleen also gave a fantastic service to the IGB, working as part of the tote team at Mullingar for over 40 years. It was a job she enjoyed and remembered fondly, often referencing the constant fun and conversation with staff and punters alike.
An amazing woman andtremendously selfless person, she always put her family first and her passing will leave a hole that can’t be filled. For those that knew her, she will be forever missed and we would likely to take this opportunity to send on our sincerest condolences to her husband Francie, her children Catherine, Francis, Julie, Michael and David, her beloved grandchildren, extended family and many friends.
May She Rest In Peace.
