There is no shortage of competitive action at Newbridge this evening as they say goodbye to 2025 in style with a ten-race card packed with stake finals.
The action gets underway at 7.30pm and the feature in terms of monetary value is the final of the This Runs Deep A1 525.
FUN SET FOR A BIG RUN
Funintherun may not have set the standard in the semis but he is perhaps the one to beat from a favourable draw in his beloved stripes.
The son of Malachi has won eleven times in his career and will look to bring up the dozen at the expense of semi-final winners Ridgemount Sky and Glenlara Blue.
Another that is respected is sprightly veteran Lotto Other News. A top-class tracker in his day, he is perhaps the most likely pace-setter and won’t be shy of support. Funintherun remains the choice, however. He boasts fine pace throughout and may just prove too strong for Lotto Other News.
BUTLER TO SERVE UP A MASTERCLASS
Coff Butler is a confident selection in the final of the Adopt A Greyhound A3.
He impressed in both rounds to date, clocking 28.90 and 28.97 and a repeat of that sort of run would allow him come home in front at the expense of Kilara Doechii.
CONDOR TO SOAR
Condor Cleopatra and Kelseys Zoom can battle out the finish in the final of the Merry Christmas A4 525.
Both were impressive in their respective semis and they can quickly come to the fore. Much will depend on the opening exchanges but Condor Cleopatra is drawn inside her rival and that could make the difference.
TOUGH AND FERN APPEAL IN DUAL DISTANCE FINALS
Cry Tough and Miss Fern appeal in their respective finals. Both came home clear in the semi-finals of their respective competitions and are chosen to do so again.
Cry Tough races from three in the final of the Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 525/550, while Miss Fern lines out in five in the final of the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust 525/550.
MCKENNA THE MAN
Vincent McKenna could be the man to follow in the two earliest finals on the card.
He sends out Aulton Cash in the final of the Christmas Cracker ON2 525 and he will be hard to beat of reproducing anything like his semi-final run when running on well to lead late.
McKenna has two runners in the final of the Thanks To Our Sponsors S3 325. Both Soggy Runner and Opera Moment have strong claims and will be amongst the leading fancies but neither can’t afford to fall asleep at the wheel of Super Junior could catch them napping.
