Kindly sponsored by Fast Trap Greyhound Supplies, the semi-finals of the €1,400-to-the-winner Fast Trap A5/A6 525 take centre stage on tonight’s card at Galway, where Slipalong Dew will be bidding to follow up on an impressive victory last time out.
Owned by Willie McDonagh, that success was her first since July of last year, a notable return to form given the manner of the win. Staying on strongly to defeat Gimme That by three lengths in 29.25, the daughter of Grangeview Ten looked to have plenty in hand at the line. A trap two draw in the second semi-final should play to her strengths once again. Burkos Breeze arrives with a contrasting profile after producing a sharp break last time, posting a 3.24 sectional before stopping the clock at 29.31. Amy Burke’s fawn is a seasoned performer and, drawn in trap three, may again look to make full use of her early pace. Should Slipalong Dew track her into the back straight, it promises to be a fascinating contest.
In the opening semi-final, Lallys Legacy appears well positioned for trainer Vincent McKenna. The son of Droopys Sydney has registered ten wins from 44 career starts, a record that highlights both his consistency and versatility. A favourable trap three draw looks ideal and another solid display is anticipated. Balrobuck Tom is likely to be finishing strongly from the inside, while Drombeg Rose showed plenty of early speed in the opening round and remains open to further improvement as a June pup.
