EYE-CATCHING PERFORMANCES AT GALWAY

While it was a busy night up and down the Country, it would be remiss not to mention some fine displays at Galway Greyhound Stadium on Friday night.

The first of the eye-catching displays came in the curtain raiser as Vernon Mist emerged a runaway winner of his debut outing for Brian O’Donnell. The October pup was installed as the 4/6 favourite in this contest so confidence was obviously high of a big performance from the son of Ballymac Cashout and Ballymac Sanjose. After qualifying in with a brisk 29.48 trial around the Connacht venue, ‘Mist’ made his intentions clear with a slick exit from trap three to quickly assert. In doing so, the strapping youngster got the upper-hand over Ceide Sky at the opener and this allowed Vernon Mist to shoot clear thereafter. Crossing the line seven lengths clear, the time for the promising puppy was 29.23 .10s. Given that Galway is notoriously a tough running circuit, this was a fine effort from O’Donnell’s runner.

    MAGIC MAG

Just as the curtain raiser proved impressive, the finale was equally as brilliant. Pat Guilfoyle has a serious kennel at present and Magical Mag delivered a swashbuckling performance to win by a country mile in race eight. The 4/6 jolly, ‘Mag’ was luckless in her last outing, however, she broke in front on this occasion and this proved decisive in proving a class above her rivals. Shooting into a seven length lead entering the back, the daughter of Ballymac Cashout and Mystical Luna drew further clear as the contest progressed before crossing the line nine lengths clear of She Did It in second. The time was a magnificent 28.81 .10s.
