DINNY MACKEY SUCCESS FOR BORNA THYME

    Peter Farrell

There was plenty of interest in proceedings at Thurles Stadium on Saturday night as the final of the €2,400 to the winner Dinny Mackey Memorial A3 525 took centre stage.

On the night, claims could have been for all six runners, however, it was Borna Thyme that emerged victorious as Ruairi Dwan’s runner built on a fantastic semi final performance to produce a career-best effort over the standard trip. A greyhound with some terrific two-bend form, the son of Skywalker Canny - Candanchu donned the orange jacket in the decider and he picked a fine night to record his best ever sectional when posting 1.66 early doors. In doing so, this enabled ‘Thyme’ to emerge a narrow half-length winner over Ducks Ina Row in second. A fitting end to what was another terrific renewal of this event, the time was 28.86.

    SEVENTEEN NOT OUT FOR SHIRLEY

Elsewhere on the card, it would be remiss not to mention Sunshine Shirley, who made it four straight wins last night, while sealing an incredible seventeenth career win in the process.

Owned by the Feel-Good-Racing-Synd, Sunshine Shirley is a real track specialist at Thurles Park and she once again justified her 4/5 billing with a trap-to-line victory. Breaking best of all from four, the daughter of Black Parachute - Daryanoor Shine shot into a three length lead down the back and she showed brilliant gameness to see off Goldmine Oscar thereafter. While the latter did make inroads late on, ‘Shirley’ still emerged one and a half lengths clear in a time of 29.06.
