DIAMOND BACK AS HE FLIES IN TOWCESTER TRIAL

Ian Fortune

Bockos Diamond flew around Towcester in 15.48 on Sunday afternoon in what was his first public outing since winning his second-round heat in last year’s BOYLE Sports Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park.

It was wonderful to see the brilliant son of Dorotas Wildcat back in action and he looked fluent as he went within two lengths of the track record for the 270m trip.

The 2024 Irish Derby champion went close to English Derby glory last year, finishing second to Droopys Plunge in the decider and it will be great to see him back in racing action in the classic later in the month.

There were a number of Irish trained runners trialed at Towcester on Sunday. Aside from Bockos Diamond, Graham Holland also gave Shotgun Dez a spin and he posted 15.75 for the sprint trip, while Garfiney Warrior recorded 29.00 for the 500m Derby trip.

CORNER IMPRESSES IN TRIAL FOR BUCKLEY

Pat Buckley is readying a big team for an English Derby challenge and he would have been delighted with the 28.53 effort from Hackney Corner over the 500m trip.

Glengar Silent also impressed in a trial. The 2025 Irish Derby finalist recently posted a flying 27.92 at Limerick so it was no surprise to see him skip around Towcester in a quick 28.68.

Buckley would also have been very content with the trial of Glengar Kane. The Enniscorthy 525yd track record holder flew in a sprint trial, posting 15.55. The promising Grouchos Jack posted 28.98 for Buckley in a 500m spin, while his Juvenile Derby runner-up Unanimous Leo also moved well over two bends as he stopped the clock in 15.74.
