UPDATE IN RELATION TO GREYHOUNDS BEING REHOMED IN THE UNITED STATES

GRI

During the summer of 2022, several scheduled transports of Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (IRGT) greyhounds to the US were cancelled/deferred due to the extreme high local temperatures at destination airports. The decision to cancel/defer these transports were made in the interest of greyhound welfare.

Now that the prevailing temperatures have begun to drop, flights carrying IRGT greyhounds to many parts of the United States have resumed. This in turn should help shorten the time lag between owners getting their greyhounds prepared for rehoming (and then placed in IRGT rehoming list) and greyhounds being taken into the rehoming process.

The IRGT would like to remind all owners intent on rehoming their greyhounds that they must ensure that their dogs have been neutered, vaccinated (DHPPi, Lepto 4 and Kennel Cough) and have Pet Passports fully completed by their veterinary practitioners. Failure to do these things may mean that owners will, as a result, lose their place on the rehoming list and have an additional delay.
