SHERLOCK AND DARCIA THE STARS IN DONOHOE MEMORIAL

Ian Fortune

Dysert Sherlock and Ballymac Darcia won their semi-finals of the Michael Donohoe Memorial Leger at Enniscorthy with both posting 28.98 and both wearing the white jacket.

The Nick turner trained Dysart Sherlock (Ballymac Best/ Cherry Lane) was first to score, showing great pace and determination to overcome plenty of early crowding. Glideaway Spiral got loose at the front end, while Dysert Sherlock was forced to check in the opening five strides before taking further bumps at the first and second turn.

Despite all this, he had shown enough early speed to turn relatively close to the pace in third before making a move into the penultimate turn. In a tight finish, Dysert Sherlock got up in the closing yards to see off Glideaway Spiral by a half lengths with Marlfield Trent just behind in third.

DARCIA GETS LOOSE

After claiming the valuable Future Champion & Michael Fortune Memorial Unraced Stake earlier this year, Ballymac Darcia has her sights set on another big prize at Enniscorthy after coming through her semi-final in fine style.

Trained by Pat Whelan for Declan Kelly and Bernard Farrell, the daughter of Bull Run Bolt and Jaytee Pearl flashed from trap three and was always in the driving seat. Picture Parade quickly moved second and gave chase throughout but Ballymac Darcia ran out a comfortable two length scorer in 28.98. Brand Dispute ran on well to finish just a short head away in third.
