FLASH SETS PACE IN ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

Favourite backers were in clover at Enniscorthy on Monday evening as both semi-finals of the valuable Kiltrea Kennels Open Unraced went to the market leader including Cloneden Flash, who set the standard for the second week running.

Angry Uncle wasn’t much behind on the clock in the other semi-final, however, and the stage is now set for a thrilling conclusion to the €3,250 to the winner competition.

FLASH GETS LOOSE EARLY

The Pat Buckley trained Cloneden Flash won in very similar fashion seven days earlier, leading early before pulling away for a comfortable success.

The son of Makeshift and Madabout Bella, who is owned by Paddy Kehoe and Enda Currie, quickly asserted despite the best efforts of impressive opening round scorer Angry Angel.

The latter gave chase throughout but had no answer to Cloneden Flash, who eased on to win by six lengths in a fast 28.90. Third spot went to Monbeg Ed a further four lengths adrift.

UNCLE WINS WELL

Pere Cronin and Liam Walsh sent out Angle Uncle to win the opening heat, show determination to force his way to the front on the corner.

Coolpeach Flash went up fastest to hold a narrow advantage but he was pushed out of the way by Angry Uncle at this point.

The duo had a good buckle down the back straight with Angry Uncle doing enough to retain his lead into the third turn. From there, the March ’21 whelp eased on to land the spoils by two lengths in 28.95. The third qualifying spot went to Swithins Teejay, a further three lengths back.
