FLASH LIVES UP TO HIS NAME AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

Cloneden Flash produced an incredible display to emerge the fastest second round scorer in the Kiltrea Kennels Open Unraced 525, posting a sensational second fastest of the year 28.66 in a facile trap to line success.

The Pat Buckley trained son of Makeshift and Madabout Bella was sharpest at traps and cut for the fence but was never threatened. Owned jointly by Paul O’Donnell and Edna Currie, the December ’20 whelp increased his lead throughout to emerge a ready and mighty impressive five length scorer.

Angry Uncle gave chase throughout to finish second, while Ballinabola Buzz stayed on well to finish just three parts of a length away in third.

CATHAL NEXT FASTEST

To highlight the strength of the display of Cloneden Flash, Priceless Cathal was next fastest as he came home clear in the opening heat in 29.01.

Trained by Paul Hennessy for Brian and Kathleen Murphy, the son of Belles Direction and Priceless Dancer was only third into the turn behind Tomahurra Pixie but moved second before the back straight.

Taking over into the third turn, Priceless Cathal eased right away to emerge a five length scorer. Ballinabola Bear was second with Swithins Teejay four lengths adrift in third.

WILLOW COMPLETES A DOUBLE FOR CRONIN

Peter Cronin had a double in the remaining heats with both Angry Angel and Montys Willow coming home clear.

The latter went faster, leading early to make all in the final heat. Mark Burroughs’ son of Kinloch Brae and Newinn Willow led up along the fence and held the challenge of Monbeg Ed to halfway before going on to score by five and a half lengths in 29.06.

ANGEL DIGS DEEP

Angry Angel set the standard in the opening round with a fine display but she had to work far harder in Heat 2.

Edging off the fence in the early yards, she took a couple of bumps before turning in front for Peter Cronin and Liam Walsh.

The daughter of Ballymac Best and Angry Lauren built a three length lead by the final turn but had to keep up to her work out front to contain the rallying Coolpeach Flash by three parts of a length in 29.12.
