A BUCKLEY BRACE IN BARRY 600 SEMIS

A BUCKLEY BRACE IN BARRY 600 SEMIS

Ian Fortune

Pat Buckley was certainly the man to follow at Shelbourne Park on Saturday as he recorded a wonderful double in the semi finals of the Yvonne Barry Track Bookmaker Open 600.

Glengar Elvis continued his rapid rise up the ranks with a superb display but the headlines went to his older kennel companion Bens Teddy, who recorded a sensational 32.03 to justify his position at the head of the outright market.

TEDDY TAKES OFF

There were two non-runners in the second heat and the extra room certainly worked in favour of Bens Teddy who was able to turn a close second to the fast-starting Jetstream Breeze.

A 32.44 winner in the opening round, Bens Teddy was always likely to come on for the run and so it proved.

Jetstream Breeze continued to set a blistering gallop into the third turn but Bens Teddy was stalking him in second. Making his move as they turned for home, Kim Prichard’s powerful son of Droopys Sydney and Beechgrove Bell took charge before easing on to win by two lengths in a sensational 32.03. Jetstream Breeze lost nothing in defeat in second while there was a further three length gap to Barefoot Supremo in third.

ELVIS IN THE GROOVE

Glengar Elvis is really making a name for himself. After a superbly impressive opening round effort when posting a fastest of the night 32.22, he went even faster in the opening semi-final.

Lotto Six One went up fast on the outside of the track but so too did Glengar Elvis.

It was on the opening corner that the race was decided with Glengar Elvis forcing his way to the front. Opening a clear advantage into the back straight, he was always in command thereafter. Droopys Nice One, his great market rival, slipped around second and did close a little to the third turn but, as he did in the opening round, Glengar Elvis kicked again off the final turn.

Kenny Glen’s hugely exciting son of Brett Lee and Droopys Smasher emerged a tremendous two length winner in 32.19. Droopys Nice One was second with Borna Flame coming through for third, some three lengths adrift in third.
