PRO AM A BIG MOVER AS 2023 DERBY PRICES GO LIVE

Derby sponsors for the past decade, BoyleSports have already priced up the 2023 renewal and, while the market has only been live for a matter of hours, greyhound trader Damien Lonergan reported on Sunday evening that there has already been strong support for one greyhound.

The dog in question is Callaway Pro Am. The beaten favourite in this year’s renewal, he was introduced at 40-1 for the 2023 blue riband but his price has already been halved after a couple of significant bets. It means he is now 20-1 alongside his fellow co-favourites Ballinabola Ed and Coolavanny Hoffa.

Of course, Ballinabola Ed is currently engaged in the Leger at Limerick, while Coolavanny Hoffa is currently serving bitches. Callaway Pro Am was also in action over the weekend. He took his chance in the semi-finals of an Open 525 at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night and clearly needed the run in what was his first outing since the Derby decider.

Of course, this year’s Derby was won in brilliant fashion by Born Warrior and the Jennifer O’Donnell trained star has been introduced at 33-1 to defend his crown. He is an intended runner at the Winter Racing Festival.

Other big names on the 33-1 mark include this year’s Kirby Memorial champion Swords Rex, Juvenile Derby finalist Droopys Got It, current Leger challenger Vincenzo, Juvenile Derby champ Clona Duke and the UK based Coolavanny Shado.      

Coolavanny Shado is not the only UK based runner on the list as the hugely exciting Fromposttopillar is quoted at 40-1. He is joined on that mark by 2022 Derby runner-up Ballymac Finn, Boylesports Vic, Garryvoe Joe, Droopys Rocker, Raha Mofo, Here Comes Syd and Magical Kuba.
