NICKY WALSH

NICKY WALSH

It’s with real sadness we must report the passing of a true doggy man, Nicky Walsh.

Known to so many as the ‘Swithins’ man, Nicky was involved in greyhounds all his life and leaves behind a great legacy. Originally from Clogga, Co Kilkenny, he bred and owned some real canine stars through the years including a number of classic finalists. Amongst his very best were National Sprint finalist and top sprinter Paulo Coehlo, Derby finalists Machu Picchu and Borneo, Derby consolation winners Hey Gringo and Swithins Brae and English Derby consolation winner Angry Dad to name just a few.

He had his final winner on Saturday night when Swithins Teejay came home in front. It was fitting that his final winner came at Waterford, a track where so many of his stars began their career and a place that had a special place in his heart.

To those that knew him, Nicky was a real gent. He was a shrewd operator but also the very best company. His son Liam remains hugely involved in the sport and continues to have greyhounds with Peter Cronin, who trained the vast majority of Nicky’s dogs.

We would like to send on our sincerest condolences to Nicky’s son Liam, his daughters Nicola and Tara, his sons-in-law Nicholas and Peter, his daughter in law Anne, his beloved grandchildren Lauren, Grace, Anna, Mary, Oscar, Reuben and Tesse, his brothers Tom and Paul, sisters Nora and Teresa, his in-laws, extended family and many friends.

May He Rest In Peace.
