ROANNA RUNS RIOT AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

Roanna Sheiler is clearly a name to remember. Adrian Maher and Robbie O’Neill’s posted a quick 28.85 in the opening round of the John Doyle Memorial Unraced last week but went even faster on Monday, posting a sizzling 28.74 to set a strong standard.

The son of Ballymac Best and Groveshill View was tardy at the boxes but he really flew into the turn to assert before pulling further and further clear to eventually win by a dozen lengths from Piercestown Law.

To highlight the strength of the run, the December whelp was the only heat winner to dip under 29 seconds with Gripwell Bridie next fastest as she led early to win the second heat in 29.06. In victory, Gripwell Bridie completed a double for Fraser Black and the Flynn Family Syndicate that was earlier initiated by Gripwell Bridge. The latter also made every inch to win in 29.23.

Johnny Fortune’s Alien Hope won the remaining heat, holding on for a short head victory over Cactus Panther in 29.80.
