SHIRLEY RUTH

SHIRLEY RUTH

Those involved in Irish greyhound racing were left shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Shirley Ruth on Sunday.

A member of one of the great families in the sport, she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

As a daughter of the late Johnny, a top-class handler, and Barbara Ruth, she was born into greyhound racing and had a great love of dogs and the sport. A bubbly character, she was a regular at the tracks of Ireland throughout her life and got great pleasure from the success of her sisters, Dolores and Francis Ruth, both of whom have tasted plenty of classic success during their brilliant training careers.

Only last September, Shirley enjoyed one of her greatest nights in the sport when her niece Jennifer O’Donnell trained Born Warrior to capture the Derby. Indeed, you can’t help but notice Shirley in the presentation photograph. She carried a smile that beamed from ear to ear. It really summed up how she was feeling at the time. That is how her friends and family will remember her.

We would like to send on our sincerest condolences to her partner Liam, son Graham, her son-in-law Greg, her beloved sisters Frances, Lorraine, Dolores, Pearl, Amanda and Karen and brother James, her many nieces and nephews and her many friends in the greyhound community.

May She Rest In Peace.
