HAWK CLAIMS A SUCCESS FOR TEAM ROANNA

HAWK CLAIMS A SUCCESS FOR TEAM ROANNA

Ian Fortune

It was fitting that a competition that was dominated by the ‘Roanna’ greyhounds went to one of the three runners carrying the prefix in Monday’s decider at Enniscorthy.

Roanna Sheiler was sent off the 5-4 favourite but it was his kennel companion Roanna Hawk (Ballymac Best/ Roanna Bess) that took the €3,000 prize with a tremendous effort.

Those that backed the favourite would have been happy when he recovered from a moderate start to lead into the corner but Roanna Hawk was soon in chase. Closing on the leader into the third turn, it was clear Roanna Hawk had more to give in the latter stages and he duly delivered.

Trained by Pat Norris for Mark Lowther, Roanna Hawk powered to the front on the run in before emerging a comfortable four length scorer in 29.31 (.20 slow). Tommy Surprise came through for second with Roanna Blitz a short head back in third. Roanna Sheiler faded badly to finish fourth.
