ANOTHER NIGHT OF GREAT RACING ACTION AT CURRAHEEN PARK

ANOTHER NIGHT OF GREAT RACING ACTION AT CURRAHEEN PARK

Barry Drake

WALKABOUT BARNEY made it back-to-back winning performances in Saturday night's final of the €1,350 to the winner Galloping Kennels and Cork GOBA A2 Stake final at Curraheen Park.

In the ownership of James and Patrick Flynn, the 9-4 winner delivered a superb performance as he took a really bad bump at the opening corner when in prime position.

Getting a dream run at the opening corners, Quivers Husky quickly took up the running. Walkabout Barney always looked dangerous after recovering from the bump in a couple of strides and in fairness to the brave winner, he dug really deep in the closing stages and ran out a very worthy winner. At the line, Walkabout Barney was three quarters of a length clear of Quivers Husky, in 29.09. Two and a half lengths back to Broadstrand Ray in third place.

A REAL PROSPECT

Droopys Iconic (Laughil Blake-Droopys Zero) looked a real prospect on debut last week and the Pat Kiely trained runner didn't disappoint in the second semi final of the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust ON2 Stake.

In the ownership of the Golden Spoon Syndicate, this September puppy has a big future ahead. Sent off the 1-3 favourite, he broke really quickly and was nicely clear at the opening corner. Flying down the back straight, he clocked a sensational 15.94 to the third corner and he then kept on well to land the spoils, in a top class, 28.22. Teds Dexter was eight lengths back in second, with three and a half lengths back to Classy Diva in third place.

BACK TO BACK WINS

Impressive in the opening round, Bolgers Inquiry was another to record back to back wins in the opening heat.

In the care of Breda Moloney, the January son of Ballymac Bolger and Bellmore Lucy was sent to traps as the 9-4 second choice of the punters. Coming away running in the four dog event, Bolgers Inquiry sailed around the opening corners in front. Long odds on favourite Trouble was done no favours early on as Never Mind Me turned right after leaving trouble. However up front, the winner was piling on the pressure. Five clear midway down the back, the exciting young talent clocked 16.21 to the third corner, but he really caught the eye with his big finishing speed, pulling further and further clear, winning by ten and a half lengths over Never Mind Me, who was half a length clear of Trouble, in 28.37.

Pickitupwink went quickest on the clock when winning the second heat for Ray Fleming, in 29.98. The 4-1 shot delivered a really strong all round performance to beat Ballinacarriga, by three and a half lengths. Rex Mundi a short head back in third place.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE

Galloping Sydney has a real liking for Curraheen Park and the Graham Holland trained runner delivered another outstanding performance when winning the BoyleSports Irish Derby Trial Stake in great fashion.

Owned by Una Creed, punters who took the 4-5 on offer never had a moment's worry as the winner took control before the opening corner and from there, the outcome was never in doubt. To be fair to Ballydague Bella, she ran a cracker in second. At the line, two and a half lengths separated the front two, in 29.74. (550).

NUMBER 18

In the Open Sprint, Fiftycashback made it win number 18 of his magnificent racing career for owner Denis Crowley.

Sent off a very generous 4-1, the classy winner showed huge all round pace to score, in 17.67. Three quarters of a length back to favourite Skylight Blake.
