BILLERICAY JOE was the standout performer in Waterford on Saturday night as the June youngster made it three wins from four career outings in the final of the €1,900 to the winner Slaneyside Solutions & W.T.S.C ON2/ON3 Unraced Stake.
Trained by Peter Cronin for owner Billy McMahon, the 5-2 shot had impressed in earlier rounds and this was another smashing performance from the bright prospect.
Poorly away and last heading into the opening corner, Billericay Joe had to be brave soon after the second bend as he drove into second place along the inside of the track. At this stage, Tassie Treasure had moved five lengths clear and she was looking good up front. A son of Ballymac Cashout and Ballymac Diva, Billericay Joe finished powerfully to land the spoils, in 28.89, two lengths clear of the early leader. A lovely performance from the winner who can build on this going forward.
PAULA BERGIN MEMORIAL A2 550
Cloncunny Bally came out on top in the final of the Paula Bergin Memorial A2 550 which had a winner’s prize of €1,650.
Owned and trained by Jim Scully, the 5-1 outsider was last heading into the opening corner, but with trouble up front, it opened up nicely for the winner. Lough Mistoki shot clear at the head of affairs, but Cloncunny Bally put on a fantastic finish to score, in 30.36. A length and a half the difference between the front two.
SPLIT THE POT A3 STAKE
Minglers Courage landed the final of the €700 Split The Pot A3 stake.
In the ownership of Eddie and Tadgh Moore, the March youngster turned handy and the improving winner pulled out all the stops in the closing stages to win, in 29.29, a length clear of Granard Thunder in second.
ALL THE RAGE IN THE MARKET
Racing ended with a smashing performance from Brynoffa Jenson in the closing race.
All the rage in the market, the 1-3 favourite was recording four straight wins for trainer Eamon Mackey and owner Hannah Mackey. Things didn't go right early on, but the impressive winner was just a class apart as he scored, in 28.90.
