RPGTV announced earlier this month that the inaugural RPGTV Greyhound of the Year for Mullingar was to go Horseleap Nelly.

The winners are announced each year to honour the outstanding successes at stadia included in the regular RPGTV schedule for both Ireland and UK. This is the first year that Mullingar have been included in the awards.

The daughter of Ballymac Best and Horseleap Deal, Horseleap Nelly was certainly prolific through 2022, winning on thirteen separate occasions at the midlands venue.

Her first 3 wins came in A8 company, before steadily moving up the grades to win in A1 company for the first time in late August.  The step to the top grade didn’t halt her winning ways. In fact, she won four more times before the end of the year, the last of which was in an A0/A1 525.

And there is no chance of her slipping back down the grades as she began 2023 in tremendous fashion, capturing an A0/A1 on January 14th in 29.14 (estimated 28.54).

She has certainly been a star for her owner and trainer Sean McGuinness.  Sean and Nelly were honoured on Sunday 26th February at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium with the presentation of a trophy, which was broadcast live on the afternoon show on RPGTV.

On behalf of everyone in Mullingar Greyhound Stadium we want to send our congratulations to Sean & Nelly!
