BIG NAMES WARMING UP FOR BRESBET EASTER CUP

Ian Fortune

After a massive weekend on the track, which saw Skywalker Barry crowned the RCETS Gold Cup champion, attention now switches to the upcoming Bresbet Easter Cup.

This year’s renewal gets underway on Saturday week, February 19th, and all the signs would suggest the entry will be of the highest quality.

There were plenty of clues on offer over the weekend. Of course, Skywalker Barry, if connections choose to take in the Easter Cup, would have to be seen as a big player. He wasn’t the only possible Easter Cup challenger on show at Shelbourne on Saturday.

Aside from the remaining Gold Cup finalists, there were plenty in action that would be deserving of a place in the entry. Two of Ireland’s fastest females, Bockos Leah and Scooby Duchess both caught the eye in defeat and should come on considerably for their latest outing.

Connections must be considering a crack at the Easter Cp with the in-form Millridge Bobby, while others like National Puppy Stake winner Scooby Prince, Deadly Diego, Fast Fit Paddy, Allforthebest and Auxerre could also be amongst the entry.

There were also some notable trialists. On Friday, 2021 Derby finalist All About Ted posted a very satisfactory 28.37, while the following night Coolavanny Duke was fastest in Saturday’s trial session, posting a rapid 28.23.

Sentimental Lad and Scarty Yank also went fast clocking 28.29 and 28.37 respectively, while the talented duo of Coolavanny Calvn and Skywalker Cilla went very quick over two bends. Skywalker Cilla posted a sizzling 18.44 for the 350yd trip, while Coolavanny Calvn all impressed, posting a rapid 18.45.

Add to these the Derby and Oaks champion Susie Sapphire who has trialed well in recent weeks and so many more big names and it’s safe to assume this year’s Bresbet Easter Cup will be amongst the best competitions on the calendar.
