CAMPION DOUBLE ON A FINE CLONMEL CARD

CAMPION DOUBLE ON A FINE CLONMEL CARD

Peter Farrell

The second round heats of the Freddie & Timmy Campion Memorial Guys & Dolls served as the highlight on Sunday night’s Clonmel card and it was Miss Mini Rose who went narrowly quickest for Thomas O’Donovan.

Fresh from a short-head victory last time out, the daughter of Broadstrand Bono and Miss Mini Marvel came out the right side of another photo finish this time around. The 5/4 favourite, ‘Rose’ broke in blistering style from trap one but was challenged early on by Blantyre Lady in four. That challenge persisted throughout the entire contest as no quarter was given between these two trackers, however, just coming out in front was the determined Miss Mini Rose and she won by a neck in 29.06 .10s.

HEAT WATCH

In the opening heat of the night, Hostile Roar went to traps as the even money favourite and the Adam Dunford-trained black made it four wins from just seven starts. Running from trap four, the son of Ballymac Kingdom and Sing Dixie was also involved in a closely run affair as he just got the better of the staying-on, Baramba, in second. The time was 29.09 .10s.

On a night where Paraic Campion sent out a double, his first winner came in heat two as Hollyhill Billy made it three wins on the spin for owner Gerard Gubbins. Another contest where the judge was called into action, the son of Confident Rankin and Vivaro Sansa made every yard as he just held off Radioactive Boy by a short-head in second. The time was 29.22 .10s.

The final heat of the night was claimed by Tullovin Winx, who duly obliged at odds of 3/1. Owned by Helen Sheahan, this lady was still searching for her first career win and it was long overdue as she pinged out in front from trap one. From there, the daughter of Pestana and Ballyelan Comet stuck to her task well to see off Minor Rocker by one and a half lengths. The time was 29.06 .10s.

SENORITA BRINGS UP CAMPION DOUBLE

The second semi final of the Clonmel Track Members A2/A3 525 was landed by Burgess Senorita as she brought up the double for Paraic Campion. Jointly owned by Sheila Spillane and JJ Fennelly, this lady was chasing her third straight victory and she made her intentions felt from the outset as she broke best of all from trap one. Maintaining a brilliant gallop, the daughter of Droopys Sydney continued her rich vein of form as she comfortably led home Minella Rachel by three and a half lengths. The time was 28.93 .10s.
