BRILLIANT DREAM A DAD

BRILLIANT DREAM A DAD

Ian Fortune

The brilliant 2022 Juvenile Classic winner Wi Can Dream was retired without much fanfare earlier this year after picking up an injury at Shelbourne Park but it was wonderful to hear from his owner Lars Wicander yesterday afternoon as he reported his star in fine form.

A brilliant tracker throughout his career, his last big display came in his penultimate start when running up the Select Stakes at Waterford, pushing Clona Duke hard throughout. Of course, he was also a finalist in the Leger at Limerick last December and only ran at the very highest level throughout his tremendous career.

Well, the good news Lars had to share was that Wi Can Dream has become a dad or the first time. Lars and his wife Anita have long been greyhound racing devotees, both in their native Sweden and in Ireland, and they are both proud as punch as Wi Can Dream’s first ten pups are out of last year’s Swedish Bitch of the Year, Cayenne (Pic above).

The litter was born in October and Lars reports that both mum and pups are doing well. The litter, which were conceived through frozen semen, have already been named and incredibly there is only one dog amongst nine bitches. And his name? Well, it’s pretty fitting he is called U Can Dream. You most certainly can. We look forward to hearing of their progress in the future.
