BLANTYRE LADY CLAIMS FREDDIE AND TIMMY CAMPION MEMORIAL

Peter Farrell

There was €2,100 up for grabs in the final of the Freddie and Timmy Campion Memorial 525 last night at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium and it went the way of the Adam Dunford-trained Blantyre Lady.

Owned by Michael Organ, the blue came into the event fresh from winning her semi final assignment in off-the-pace fashion and she was to produce a similar performance on the night that mattered. Running from trap two, Blantyre Lady had plenty on her plate early on as she sat in fifth rounding the opener with Radioactive Boy setting standard out in front. However, the well-bred daughter of Malachi and Body Clock made rapid progress down the back and she was within a couple of lengths of the leader entering the penultimate bend. Hollyhill Billy hit the front at this point, however, in what was a closely knit pack, it was virtually four in a line turning into the home straight. At this point, Blantyre Lady was to come into her own. Emerging from the middle of the pack, Dunford’s charge stayed on powerfully in the closing yards and she drew clear crossing the line to win by an extending two lengths from Radioactive Boy in second. The time was 29.38 .10s.
