A FLYING RUN FROM FLASHING WILLOW IN SUPERSPRINT FINAL

Barry Drake

FLASHING WILLOW, trained by Pat Buckley for owner Kenny Glen, ran out a brilliant winner of the €3,500 to the winner final of the Greyhound & Petworld Supersprint at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.

If you took the short odds of 4-6 in the betting, you never had a moment's worry as the exciting sprinter came away well and he was soon in cruise control. Following up on last week's winning performance, Flashing Willow delivered another high class display as he showed bundles of pace at the head of affairs. A 17.41 winning run, two and a half lengths clear of Super Hit Man, who himself ran a big race back in second. Wilderness Hades was a length and a half back in third place.

Brian Collins (Racing Manager), Darren Hogan (Curraheen Park), Alex Grassick (GRI Board), James Corden with Flashing Willow and Liam Murphy of Greyhound & Petworld after the success of Flashing Willow in the feature.

STRONG LATE FINISH
Naughty Naughty put on a strong late finish to win the €700 final of the Curraheen Park Supporters Club A3 stake.

Owned by Jack Foley McGann and Lillian McGann, the September youngster is a much improved sort in recent times and the 7-2 shot delivered a career best performance in the final. Always handy, she finished best of all to deny Joyces Magpie, by two lengths, in 28.87.

IN OTHER RACES
In race eight, Filibustor impressed with a fine front running winning display for owner Ned Kerrisk. The 5-2 winner displayed massive early gears to storm clear around the opening corners and the in-form winner won with plenty to spare, in 28.85.
Donal O'Mahony's Millridge Byrce made the most of the inside line to win the closing race. Just making the corner in front, the 6-4 joint favourite was in prime position heading down the back straight. Ballyhooly Hi was flying home, but the line came in time for the Millridge runner as he scored, by a head, in 28.84. Churchtown Syd was the hard luck story of the race, he almost got around in front from the outside of the track.
