A GOOD STORY BEHIND JAYKO

A GOOD STORY BEHIND JAYKO

Ian Fortune

Crafty Jayko emerged a tremendous winner of her semi-final of the Suncroft Festival Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.

It’s no surprise to see a top-class youngster emerging from the Crafty Kennels but we were curious about her sire, Priceless Boris.

The son of Laughil Blake and Noelles Swiftco was certainly bred to be fast but sadly he suffered a career ending injury before he even got to run his first race. Shane Divilly takes up the story.

“We sold Priceless Boris to Paul Hennessy unraced but he got injured in a trial as he was being prepared for the unraced in Tralee. Mam wanted to replace the dog for Brian and Kathleen Murphy and had nothing so she gave them a 12 week-old-pup.

“Brian thought mam was being very fair and asked Paul to mate a bitch to the dog so the mother can get a pup back. When Paul rang to say the pup ready to go, we were in the middle of the coursing season and had nothing to rear a September pup with so we asked could we buy another from the litter.

“It just so happens that Jayko was the second pup. Boris was rehomed, meaning he only had the one litter. He’s a brother to Skywalker Canny and Cockyorconfident”

It’s a good story and given the impressive nature of Crafty Jayko’s latest display, we’ll be seeing plenty of her in the coming months.
