ACCLAIM A POTENTIAL DUNDALK CONTENDER

Ian Fortune

In a short amount of time, Good Acclaim has established himself as one of the very best sprinters in the UK and his connections are speaking of a potential crack at the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk later in the summer.

The son of Good Cody displayed promise in two Irish trials as a puppy and was sold to Craig Day before running a race. Since making a winning debut over two bends at Star Pelaw in early December, he has won ten more sprints, suffering just two defeats, one of which came in his only four bend outing.

On Saturday he emerged a good winner of the Category Two ARC Dunstall Dash.

Speaking after the race, Craig Day confirmed that a crack at Dundalk’s showpiece was on his radar. Certainly, the Stuart Tighe trained sprinter has the early speed to be a contender over the 400yd trip and a glance through his breeding would also suggest he can be a player.

Of course, his sire Good Cody won the Irish Sprint Cup back in 2021, while he is also closely related to 2020 winner Grangeview Ten. Good Acclaim’s dam Portumna Marina is a daughter of 2019 Brood Bitch of the Year Portumna West making her a half-sister to the aforementioned Grangeview Ten.

Hopefully all goes well in his preparations and we get to see Good Acclaim take on Ireland’s best around Dundalk. Certainly, the red carpet will be rolled out for both he and his connections.
