RON RALLIES TO LAND GALWAY FEATURE

Peter Farrell

With Friday night seeing two sweepstake finals coming to a conclusion at Galway, Saturday night saw another three down for decision and there were some brilliant performances fitting of the winning purse on offer.

The pick of the finals was the €1,000 to the winner, ‘Online Race Entries A3 525’ and this went the way of the Michael Hogan-owned Grangeview Ron, who made it back-to-back wins after landing his semi final in 28.98 .10s. Led early on by Mounvoor Lad in trap three, Grangeview Ron looked a potent threat from an early stage and he used his wide berth perfectly to swoop around runners and assert off the second bend. From here, the son of Ballymac Best and Grangeview West drew clear of his rivals and he stayed on stoutly to record a five and a half length victory. The time was a fast 28.71 .10s.

EYE-CATCHING MARK

Prior to that, Jumeirah Mark landed the final of the ‘Online Trial Booking A4 525’, pocketing another €1,000 in prizemoney.

Trained by Matthew Harte for Jimmy Buckley, Jumeirah Mark was a 5/2 shot heading into the decider and he had to do things the hard way to seal victory. Running from trap one, Jumeirah Mark was sluggish into stride on the rail and he occupied last position entering the opening turn. However, running a fine bend, he nestled into the pack and showed a brilliant turn of foot to slice through runners down the back. Taking control entering the penultimate bend, the son of Definite Opinion and Jumeirah Lolls stayed on well thereafter as he ran out a five and a half length winner over So Its Wild in second. The time was 29.12 .10s.

BACK-TO-BACK FOR TESS

The third final down for decision on the night was the €500 to the winner Galway Greyhound Stadium S3/S4 350 and this was won by Drombeg Tess.

Owned by Evan McAuliffe, who recorded a double one night prior, Drombeg Tess was a 2/1 chance at the off and she broke smartly from trap one to make full use of her rails pitch to lead. Tracking well around the bottom two bends, the daughter of Skywalker Logan and Antigua Vows raced to back-to-back victories as she crossed the line a half length clear of Ballygruige Ros in second. The time was 19.28 .5s.
